3 Ways To Move Through Life Confusion and Accomplish Your Goals

As most of you know, I just moved across the United States from Connecticut to Northern California.

But here is something you probably don’t know about me: I recently graduated engineering school. I have both a chemistry and an engineering degree. Yup, I am a bit of a nerd sometimes and I love it. The thing is, intuitively, engineering in the traditional sense does not feel right for me at this time.

Right now I love writing, connecting with YOU, making YouTube videos and working on this website. Teaching practical spirituality and connecting with nature are my passions, my divine purpose and what gets me excited. My goal is to heal my mind, be a published author and a full-time spiritual teacher.

The catch is, I have the fearful part of me constantly wondering what my life would be like if I did pursue engineering… if I went the “traditional” route. Over the past month, what-ifs and other doubts slowly crept into my mind.  The thought of going my own way and accomplishing my goals started to feel confusing and scary.

We all have that voice within us that is guiding us to follow our passion. But we also have the fearful voice that tells us to do what we are expected to do. It is the fearful voice that often brings up the doubts and what-if scenarios every time you think of following your own path.

The fear voice that says things like:

“you might not make a lot of money doing that”

“there is no security in that”

“do you want to be stuck living pay check to pay check your whole life”

“that won’t work”

“you can’t make a living doing that”

“get a real job”

“other people will think you are crazy”

Those thoughts probably make you feel heavy and frustrated so you know it comes from fear.

My Inner Guide, also known as the voice for love, is clearly saying to me: Do what you want to do in this moment.

That’s simple enough right? When you follow your Inner Guidance, you will always have the support you need. When you do what you love, you will attract abundance.

The problem is, we hold very tightly onto that fearful future trippin’ voice within us. We desperately try to figure out how decisions are going to play out in the future. Not to mention, we usually end up projecting the worst case scenario.

I have been doing this lately, and as a result, I am scared. When you admit to yourself that you are scared and confused, then you can ask for a healing. You can move forward.

My healing was in the form of loving guidance that I will share with you below.

I have clear goals and aspirations for my life and what I am meant to bring into this world. It is extremely exciting to finally step into this. But what happens when you become afraid of your goals?

The reason I felt confused is because I became scared of my goal. Below is everything you need to know when you find yourself confused and fearful about your goals and/or the direction you want to go in life.

1. The most important thing you can do for yourself is decide on the direction you want to go in!

DecideOnDirection

For example, if you are toying with the idea of going back to school, the most important thing you can do is clearly decide on whether or not you actually want to go. Only you can decide. Don’t ask yourself what is right, wrong, or what you should do. Instead, ask yourself, “what will give me the most peace now“.

When you decide, the support you need will show up.

But what if you feel too confused to decide?

Read on my friend, read on…

2. You are exactly where you need to be.

ExactlyWhere

Things are changing. Your Inner Guide needs a happy learner, so don’t beat yourself up for being confused right now. Be gentle with yourself. You are exactly where you need to be.

3. How is none of your business

AccomplishGoals

How you accomplish your goals is none of your business. What?!

When you are working with your Inner Guide, the voice for love within you, she will guide you to all the people and experiences you need in order to achieve your goals. Don’t try and accomplish things by yourself. It’s way harder that way. When you find yourself hanging out in the future trying to plan, come on back to the present and ask for guidance in the form of a prayer.

Here is the golden question you might be asking yourself right now:

But what about those obstacles that seem to pop up between me and my goal? You know, the unexpected expense, the lack of time, confusion, and/or lack of other resources? The reason obstacles come up is because you have become afraid of your purpose and goal.

Ohhh that’s deep…

Confusion is an obstacle. Conflict is an obstacle. All of the excuses you come up with on why you can’t do what you say you want to do are reflections of your fear. Yes, you can actually become fearful of what you want. This is when the obstacles appear.

How do you overcome this? Luckily, it’s only one easy step:

1. Instead of focusing on the obstacle such as lack of money or confusion on what to do, go back and become more certain about your goal or your decision. Why are you doing it? What is it for?

With certainty in your goal, and your purpose re-defined, you won’t let the obstacle stop you anymore. The attraction of what’s beyond will pull you through the confusion.

Now isn’t that beautiful.

If you find yourself confused about what and where you are going in life, that simply means you have not made up your mind. The truth is, confusion isn’t preventing you from deciding. Your lack of a decision is causing you to feel confused.

If you’re sure of what you want, you won’t have any doubt. Doubt comes from not being certain.

Like I said above, to remove the confusion, simply get clear on why you are doing something or why you want to reach a goal. If you are in total alignment with your Inner Guide, there will be no fear.

This is some juicy stuff, huh?

I don’t know if this is helping you, but it’s sure helpin’ me!

Are you feeling confused? Have any additional insight? Let it all out in the comments below.

  1. Beautiful post! Thank you! Thank you so much for writing it!
You are right, I’m confused because I haven’t decided what to do with my life yet.
I’ve been trying to figure it out for 2 years, so from time to time I feel like I am dumb for not understanding it. Any suggestions?
Thank you again for your work!

    • Hey Alice! I am really happy to hear that this post was helpful! My suggestion is to go for what excites you right now. You are here to your share your passions. One of the things I learned is that you won’t know how something feels until you actually start it! Don’t judge yourself on where you think you are in life or where you should be. I plan to write more about this in the next couple months. Good to connect with you xxx

  2. Thank you for the advice–our generation needs it. Why do we put so much pressure on ourselves to fulfill society’s expectations, when really we should just be listening to our inner guide, and where it’s telling us to go to find happiness, peace, love. The universe will provide, thank you for teaching me this.

    cheers,
    alex

  3. Oh my gosh!! Thank you so much for this post! I just came across your website via your post on Tiny Buddha and all I can say is thank you! Thank you for following your Inner Guide so you could share with all of us!
I’ve been confused for a good long while about where to go and what to do and I’ve been seeking validation from everyone one else (hence reading your other post) in just about every corner of my life. Can you say decision-phobic? I’m a planner and want to know the outcomes before I’ve even approached the water and thus far in life I’ve allowed myself to respond to slipping and falling in to life, but I’m not sure I’ve purposefully jumped in very much. Just deciding seems so simple and yet there is infinite wisdom in that.

    • Tara I am so happy you’ve found me! This post was one of my favorites to write so far because the concept is so simple, but when applied, it’s truly transformative! Thank you for commenting :)

  4. Wow!

  5. I have been working daily to spend time reading inspirational quotes. Today, Tiny Buddha lead me straight to you. It just what I need to hear. I’m struggling with fear of getting my personal trainer certificate for older people. I have always been advocate for elderly and after personal making giant strives towards mental/physical healthy, I want to share it with people that its never to late to be strong! Working towards letting go of fear of its too difficult for me to learn Science for fitness. My inner voice has to start saying I can..
You have given me push needed for today. Have a Happy Day!

    • Hey Aimee. Allow me to speak for your inner voice when I say: YOU CAN!! I too have thoughts of doubt sometimes, but I know deep down they are not true. Stay true to your vision. The world needs your passion. xx

  6. Great post and and insight sharing Amanda! I’ve known many times throughout my life what my passion is, but never had the confidence or belief in myself to go for it full throttle. Instead I made half attempts because of fear creeping in and taking over, saying to me, oh this too hard, you have to be practical, too much competition, etc. Of course this is the mind that has been conditioned since birth by our family dynamics. Reading your post has been a wonderful way to start my day to help reinforce strength and acceptance within. Thank you so much for sharing!!!! My passion is singing!!!!!

    • Hey Rhonda! Usually just being aware that it’s the fear voice trying to stop you is enough to not let it stop you anymore. Go for it!! :)
